FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(PRLog.Org) – Jan 31, 2008 – The team at Webtogs, the outdoor clothing and camping equipment e-tailers, take every chance they get to go outdoors, either camping, walking, skiing, cycling or diving (depending on which one of them you talk to!). This means it’s very important to them to do their bit to protect the environment, especially given the impact that delivery vans, like the ones used to deliver Webtogs gear to customers, have on carbon emissions.

With this in mind, the guys at Webtogs have come up with the idea of providing carbon neutral delivery – i.e. offsetting the carbon impact made by the delivery vans and trucks that deliver their gear. Every time someone places an order on webtogs.co.uk, they have the option of adding 25p to the cost of their order. If this is the case, Webtogs do the same, adding another 25p themselves. At the end of each month, they add up all the 50p contributions and send them off to their partners, Carbon Footprint.

Carbon Footprint run different types of scheme, but the scheme Webtogs are involved in is a fully traceable and independently verified scheme to plant trees in various areas around the world. Tree planting makes a direct difference to the levels of CO2 in our atmosphere, and gets Webtogs' support as one of several ways to combat pollution. After reviewing the various offset programs Carbon Footprint offer, Webtogs decided on a tree planting in Kenya scheme.

So why 50p exactly? Webtogs consulted with their partners, Carbon Footprint, and worked out the average carbon emissions of a delivery van, over an average distance within the UK. The 50p tariff, actually offsets about half the van, in most cases, so it’s a reasonably comprehensive attempt to make a small difference. If other e-tailers do the same, which will hopefully be the case in the future, then this difference will become a big one.
